leadership

I started my career with the world’s biggest corporations in consulting and banking. Personally, I’ve learned the most on leadership throughout my life as an entrepreneur. Starting alone with no staff, to growing the business with currently 350 people has been an incredible rollercoaster. One of the biggest mistakes I made is to lead by command. Leading by command resulted in a culture of execution instead of inspiration and vision. One of the managers in my team was used to getting instructions, so the moment I asked him what sales strategy we should do according to him, he could not answer because he was becoming an executor instead of a leader. Leadership is more than just commanding people to do things. Leadership is about empowering and serving people. In this article I will share 3 golden tips that will help you become a better leader and create a leadership culture in your company or team.

Leaders don’t create followers they create more leaders.
The real measure of a leader is the leaders he creates. I’m a strong believer that the more you empower people and give them responsibility, the more leadership is triggered. Empowering people will create a good leadership culture in which everyone takes ownership and responsibility.

Leadership is an opportunity to serve.
I frequently ask how I can help people in their role, because the role of any leader is to provide the right environment where people can grow and do their job optimally. A servant-leader focuses primarily on the growth and well being of the people. Traditional leadership generally involves the power by one at the “top of the pyramid” but the servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible.

The more you inspire, the more people will inspire you.
Great leaders make everyone around them feel good about their involvement with their organization. Lead by inspiration instead of fear. This will create an environment where no one is in it just for himself or herself but because they are part of a larger cause.

To your success,

Andrew
