Ben J Benjamin is the co-founder and Partner at Genesis Alternative Ventures and is based in Singapore.
Ben is co-founder (2018) and partner of Genesis Alternative Ventures, Southeast Asia’s first private venture debt fund. Ben started his career in law at Baker & McKenzie. Wong & Leow (2002 – 2005) where he practiced M&A, Corporate & Commercial and Intellectual Property law, and then continued practice at listed fashion retailer F J Benjamin, as Legal and Corporate Counsel (2006 – 2007). Moving to operations at F J Benjamin, Ben spearheaded the growth of its Luxury Division across the Asia Pacific (2008 – 2014) representing several major global luxury brands. Ben was appointed Director, Corporate Strategy (2015 – 2017) to focus on restructuring and diversification efforts, overseeing F J Benjamin’s successful Rights & Warrants Issue (2017), and was also appointed Chairman of the Group’s Omnichannel Advisory Board (2017).
In 2016, Ben was appointed Non-Executive Director of OurCrowd Singapore, the most active venture capital investor in Israel in 2018 and 2019 (Pitchbook). Ben holds various advisory positions with charities and/or institutions including the Inter-Religious Organisation, Singapore (IRO); Jewish Welfare Board, Singapore; Sir Manasseh Meyer and Isaac Manasseh Meyer Trust; Nanyang Polytechnic(Industry Advisory Panel); Asian Civilizations Museum (ACM).
